Memes

I don?t really know enough about this subject, so I won?t write that much about it..
that means that this will be more of a copy paste post

What is a meme? (this is paste fro Wikipedia)

?At its most basic, an Internet meme is simply the propagation of a digital file or hyperlink from one person to others using methods available through the Internet (for example, email, blogs, social networking sites, instant messaging, etc). The content often consists of a saying or joke, a rumor, an altered or original image, a complete website, a video clip or animation, or an offbeat news story, among many other possibilities. In simple terms, an Internet meme is an inside joke, that a large number of Internet users are in on. An Internet meme may stay the same or may evolve over time, by chance or through commentary, imitations, and parody versions, or even by collecting news accounts about itself. Internet memes have a tendency to evolve and spread extremely quickly, sometimes going in and out of popularity in just days?

Now more information about what 4chan has made can be found here (NSFW)

And some information can be found here as well (SFW)

Now I?ll show you two memes and I can bet 100$ that you?ve seen at least one of them!

#1 Rickrolling (yes, it was in fact 4chan)

#2 ?Chocolate Rain?

The Evolution of Memes (The explains how memes work in really good way)

4chan raids/invasions

This video explains in a extreme way, now most of the key elements are here but 4chan.org is not a secret website, you don't have to post anonymous if you don't want to and they won't really kill people, saying that is just part of the 'lulz' as they call it.

Now most of the time when they post all kinds of personal information about people, they asked for it? it?s people like the kid in the video below that get attacked like the one in the video above.

more raid and invasions can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan#Media_attention

The random board we talked about in the last post has another name around the internet, /b/.
This is because when you click in on the random board you get send to the URL:
www. board.4chan.org/b/

This means that /b/ is the server name of the random board, and thus the internet name /b/ was created.

Now as we talked about in the last post 4chan is an online image-board and that means it works the same was as a forum, so from now on I'll be using the name forum instead of image-board just for the sake that it's shorter to write.
Well, back to how it works!

first off we should start off how the forum setup is,
there is 15 pages, and only 15 pages to view, that means that when your post reach the 16th page it's gone and dead forever, and if you take in to consideration that 4chan is the world's largest image-board a post will fly trough those pages in 30sec or less,
but if someone replies in your post it will get bumped this means that it will go back to the first page as post number 1.

And as all online forums there is some moderation, to a degree
this is where 4chan gets interesting, since 4chan doesn't really have any rules expect one:  anything goes. Now you don't have to be a genius to understand that people will abuse this to the fullest, but that's something we'll get into in the next couple of posts about 4chan raids/invasions, internal humor and memes (that's a big one)

Well we'll get back to you later!

What is 4chan?

4chan is just like any other website you can find on the internet, now like any website 4chan has targeted a specific group of people.

Now back in 2003 when 4chan was created by a guy who called himself Moot just made an online image-board for Japanese anime, now, what does this mean you may ask?

Well an online image-board works almost just like a forum, people can add or reply to posts and the whole website is keep alive by the users (literary) since 99.9% off all content  is user created. Now the thing about image-boards is in the name, image, this means that the user is required to post an image and not just plain text, as in a forum.
As stated above, it was meant for Japanese anime, now anime is a Japanese drawing style. I guess all of you have seen it in one way or another.

Now when Moot created this website for posting and showing? art actually, he made a lot of categories on the front page like:
Anime, Manga, Anime/Cute, Wallpapers, Mecha, Cosplay & EGL, Cute/Male, Flash, Transportation, Otaku Culture, International etc.

now at the end he made a board named random, now this is the only board we?ll be talking about since is has a rather interesting history?

What is our task?

Welcome to sourmath.blogg.no, this is a school assignment by me (Mathias) and Henriette.

In this blog we want to give you a better idea of the core of internet humour... namely 4chan.org, this is a site that probably stands for most, if not all internet quotes and memes.

Now, in this blog we'll more... or less give you the 'normal' presentation of 4chan, since none of us really surf, or lurk (as they call it) 4chan our selves.

But we will try our best to give you a new side of 4chan, so that even us normal  people can understand what and maybe why these 4chan lurkers do what they do...
